For Sunday 11 and Monday 12 October

Dry Sunday and Monday in the south, showers on the northern edge

Sunday and Monday look settled and dry across the Italian Alps, Ticino, the Valais and the southern French Alps, where many parks already sit in hero dirt. Sunday brings showers along the northern side of Switzerland, into Carinthia and over the German parks. Monday is dry almost everywhere, with Slovenia the exception.

The Italian south stays dry

No rain is forecast in the Italian Alps on either day, and most parks there are already in hero dirt. Breuil-Cervinia tops the region, with Val di Sole, Pontedilegno - Tonale, Cortina d'Ampezzo and Kronplatz close behind. Paganella shows a 50 percent chance of rain both days but no measurable amount.

On the coast, Finale Ligure sits in hero dirt at around 20 degrees and drains faster than almost any park we track. Monday brings gusts near 40 km/h there. The Livigno parks remain the soft spot, still wet to variable on ground that holds water.

Ticino and Graubünden: dry both days

Ticino is dry throughout. Airolo is already in the dry band, and Ascona is in hero dirt. Next door in Graubünden, Disentis Sedrun is the pick, sitting in hero dirt on sunny slopes, with Poschiavo also in good shape.

Chur and Thusis are variable for now but drain quickly, so two dry days should help them. Davos Klosters and St Moritz are still wet.

Sunday: dry across the Italian Alps, Ticino and the Valais, with showers over central Switzerland, Carinthia and Germany.

Valais and the southern French Alps

The upper Valais is dry and in hero dirt at Saas-Grund, Bellwald, Aletsch Arena, Zermatt and Saas-Fee, with Andermatt just over the pass. Mornings are cold, dipping to around freezing at Saas-Grund.

In France, Les Orres and Serre Chevalier lead, both sunny and quick to dry, with Les 2 Alpes and Tignes/Val d'Isère also in hero dirt. Further north, Morzine, Les Gets and Châtel are still wet. Two rain-free days will help the Portes du Soleil, which recovers faster than average.

Showers along the northern Swiss side

Central Switzerland has a damp Sunday. Brunni-Alpthal gets around 4 mm and Hoch Ybrig around 2 mm, with lighter showers elsewhere. Monday is dry. Most of the region is already wet, and the parks that dry slowly will stay that way. Grindelwald-Wengen and Mürren-Schilthorn hold water more than almost any park we track.

The better bets for a quick recovery are Zug, Zürich Uetliberg and Bern Gurten, which all drain faster than most. They are still wet today.

Austria and Slovenia: rain in the south

Carinthia catches Sunday's rain. Trailcenter Ossiacher See gets around 9 mm and Gerlitzen around 6 mm, which will soften both out of hero dirt. Ossiacher See dries fast, Gerlitzen less so. Schladming stays dry and is the best in eastern Austria. Leogang and Saalbach are variable, with only traces of rain.

In the west, Sölden is the best of a soft group. Maribor Pohorje is in hero dirt now, but expect around 9 mm on Monday. It drains very quickly, so it should bounce back soon after.

Monday: dry almost everywhere, with rain only around Maribor and light traces in Carinthia.

Germany wet and windy, La Palma dry

German parks stay wet. Sunday brings around 6 mm at Winterberg and 4 mm at Willingen, with gusts near 60 km/h. Monday is dry.

La Palma sits in the dry band, with around 3 mm on Sunday at La Palma South and the others. These are among the fastest-draining parks we have, so that will barely register. Whistler is variable but dry both days, with milder air on Monday.

Our call

Head south for Sunday: the Dolomites, Trentino, Ticino and the southern French Alps are dry and in prime shape. Leave northern Switzerland and Germany until midweek.
