For Thursday 8 and Friday 9 October

Heavy rain across the Alps today, then a drier Friday almost everywhere

Thursday is a wet day across nearly the whole Alpine arc, with the heaviest totals, often 20 to 30 mm or more, along the northern Swiss and Austrian slopes. Friday turns mostly dry, with rain chances dropping to single figures in Ticino, the Dolomites and parts of the Valais. Outside the Alps, La Palma stays dry while Whistler gets its turn on Friday.

A soaking for central Switzerland and Tyrol

The wettest ground today runs from Bern to Vorarlberg. Brandnertal takes around 42 mm, Engelberg-Titlis, Brunni-Alpthal and Pilatus around 32 to 33 mm, and Höhoren Wildspitz around 28 mm with gusts above 60 km/h.

Engelberg, both Grindelwald parks and Mürren hold water more than most of our parks, so expect them to stay soft well after the rain stops. Zürich Uetliberg is the exception: only around 6 mm, drains fast, and dry on Friday. Stans and Pilatus pick up a few more millimetres tomorrow.

Bikepark Innsbruck sits at 86, close to dusty, and only gets around 7 mm today, which should settle it nicely.

Thursday brings rain to almost every Alpine park, heaviest across central Switzerland and Vorarlberg.

Graubünden and the Valais recover Friday

Chur gets around 15 mm today but drains faster than almost any park we track, and Friday is dry at 15°C. Thusis is similar. Lenzerheide takes more, around 22 mm.

In the Valais, Zermatt barely gets wet, under 2 mm, and is sunny and quick-draining: the pick of the west tomorrow. Aletsch Arena and Bellwald hold little water and have just a 3 percent rain chance Friday. Champéry and Morgins take 25 to 30 mm and are wet already.

The Dolomites and Trentino lead for Friday

Cortina d'Ampezzo is the best in the region at 69 and gets only around 2 mm today. Kronplatz takes about 4 mm, holds little water, and Friday is dry and near 18°C. Val di Sole is another fast-draining option after around 5 mm.

Paganella, Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio hold water, so their 7 to 12 mm today will linger. Finale Ligure reads muddy at 9 despite almost no rain, though it dries fast.

French Alps and Ticino wet now, dry tomorrow

Most French parks already score around 20, wet, and take about 20 mm today. Friday is dry. Serre Chevalier gets under 4 mm and drains faster than nearly all our parks, so it should recover soonest. Lac Blanc is still hero dirt but faces gusts near 65 km/h.

All of Ticino is wet or muddy with 12 to 22 mm today, then a dry Friday. Ascona holds very little water and drains fast; Monte Tamaro, the muddiest, gets the most.

Friday dries out across most of the Alps, with only light rain left in Germany, Salzburg and around Stans.

Eastern Austria, Slovenia and Germany

Trailcenter Ossiacher See leads eastern Austria at 75 with around 5 mm and good drainage. Leogang takes around 15 mm and holds water; Saalbach gets around 21 mm plus 4 mm more Friday.

Maribor Pohorje sees only light rain both days, drains fast, and reaches 22°C today. In Germany, Willingen and Winterberg get 12 to 14 mm today, more on Friday, and gusts near 60 km/h. Geißkopf gets around 6 mm and is mostly dry tomorrow.

Further afield: La Palma and Whistler

La Palma East scores 80, dry, with no meaningful rain and around 24°C. Whistler is dry today at 18°C, but around 19 mm arrives Friday with an 81 percent chance, so ride it today.
