For Friday 9 to Sunday 11 October
Dry Friday in Austria before a wet Saturday north of the Alps
Friday is the driest of the three days across most of the Alps, and Austria has the ground to make the most of it. Saturday brings the main rain, heaviest across central and northern Switzerland. Sunday turns lighter in the west but wetter in Carinthia and Slovenia.
Austria rides well on Friday
Bikepark Innsbruck leads at 80, with Bike Republic Sölden and Schladming at 76 and Saalbach Hinterglemm at 74, all dry. Friday brings nothing in the Tyrol and under 2 mm in Salzburg.
Saturday turns showery: around 3 to 4 mm at Innsbruck and Sölden, 6 to 7 mm at Saalbach and Leogang, and about 8 mm at Brandnertal. Leogang holds water more than most of our parks, so expect it to stay soft into Sunday, when another 3 to 4 mm falls.
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is in hero dirt at 66, drains better than average and sees under 3 mm on Saturday.
Carinthia and Slovenia hold until Sunday
Trailcenter Ossiacher See at 67 and Gerlitzen at 66 are both hero dirt, with under 1 mm Friday and under 2 mm Saturday at around 16°C. Sunday is the catch: around 9 mm at Ossiacher See and 6 mm at Gerlitzen. Ossiacher See drains faster than most, so it should recover quickest.
Bikepark Maribor Pohorje is dry at 77, around 18°C, with a dry Friday and about 1 mm Saturday. Sunday brings around 6 mm, but this is one of the fastest-draining parks we track.
Northern Switzerland takes a soaking Saturday
Friday stays light, under 3 mm, though showers are likely. Saturday is the wet day: around 18 mm at Höhoren Wildspitz with gusts near 57 km/h, about 16 mm at Altdorf, 15 mm at Pilatus and 14 mm at Engelberg-Titlis. Another 3 to 5 mm follows Sunday.
Altdorf at 69 and Flumserberg at 61 are hero dirt now, so Friday is their day. Most others are already wet, and Grindelwald-Wengen and Mürren-Schilthorn hold water more than almost any park we track, so they will be slow to recover.
Further west, Crans-Montana takes around 11 mm Saturday, and Champéry and Morgins are muddy.
Graubünden and high Valais see light showers
Chur Alpenbikepark is hero dirt at 64 and one of the quickest-drying parks we track. Friday is dry at around 15°C, with about 2 mm Saturday and 3 mm Sunday. Lenzerheide, Thusis and Disentis Sedrun sit in the variable band with similar light amounts.
In Valais, Saas-Fee is hero dirt at 61 with a dry Friday and around 4 mm Saturday. Zermatt at 53 is sunny and fast-draining, with about 3 mm Saturday.
Ticino, Italy and France: dry skies, wet ground
Ticino and the Italian Alps are dry Friday and see only 1 to 3 mm over the weekend, but most parks still score wet. In Ticino, Ascona, Monte Bar and Arosio drain quickly and should improve. Italy's best are Cortina d'Ampezzo at 53 and Kronplatz at 50; Falcade gets around 8 mm Saturday.
Finale Ligure is muddy at 16 despite 19 to 20°C days. The French Alps score 9 to 20, and Châtel, Morzine and Les Gets take around 5 to 7 mm Saturday.
Germany and further afield
Bikepark Geißkopf is dry at 72 with a dry but gusty Friday. Saturday brings around 10 mm and Sunday 6 mm, with gusts up to about 73 km/h. Winterberg and Willingen are wet, with rain Friday and strong gusts all weekend.
La Palma East is dry at 81, around 23°C, and drains faster than almost anywhere we track. Whistler Mountain sits at 77 but takes around 14 mm Friday before a dry Sunday.
Our call
Ride Austria on Friday, then on Saturday head for Carinthia, Maribor or Chur, where the rain stays light. Give central Switzerland a miss on Saturday.
