For Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 October

Wet weekend around Morzine and Champéry, dry trails to the east and south

This weekend splits the Alps in two. A wet band sits over the French and Swiss parks around Morzine and Champéry, with the heaviest rain there on Sunday. Further east and south, from Ticino and the Italian Alps to Austria and Slovenia, both days look dry and most trails are in hero dirt.

A wet band around Morzine and Champéry

The wettest corner of the map this weekend. Morgins takes around 19 mm today and another 6 mm on Sunday, and Champéry gets around 4 mm then 6 mm. Rain chances there sit at 95 percent today.

On the French side, Morzine Bikepark gets around 4 mm today and 15 mm tomorrow, Les Gets Bikepark around 3 mm then 18 mm. Both are in hero dirt now, but that will not last. Les Gets drains faster than most of our parks, while Morzine holds water and will stay soft longer.

Saturday: rain over Morgins, Champéry and the southern French Alps, dry across Ticino, Italy and Austria.

Southern French Alps wet today, better Sunday

Further south the rain comes first. Les Orres gets around 8 mm today and Serre Chevalier around 6 mm, then both turn dry on Sunday. These are among the fastest-draining, sunniest parks we track, so they should bounce back quickly.

Les 2 Alpes is the exception, with around 7 mm today and 4 mm more tomorrow. Tignes/Val d'Isère and Châtel stay mostly dry and hold hero dirt.

Central Switzerland dry low, showers up high

The lower parks around the lakes look good both days: Zürich Uetliberg, Zug, Stans, Pilatus, Biel and Bern Gurten have no rain forecast. Zug and Biel dry out especially fast.

Higher in the Oberland and Valais, Sunday brings showers. Mürren-Schilthorn gets around 9 mm, Andermatt, Saas-Grund and Zermatt around 3 mm each, and Grindelwald-First around 2 mm. Ride them today if you can.

Ticino, Italy and Graubünden stay dry

This is the safe bet. Arosio leads Ticino at 75, with Ascona and Monte Tamaro on 71 and no rain at all. In Italy, Val di Sole and Kronplatz see zero rain chance on Sunday, and Pontedilegno - Tonale and Reschen Pass sit on 71.

In Graubünden, Flims LAAX and Chur are the pick, though Chur sees gusts around 34 km/h. St Moritz is the odd one out: still wet at 33 despite a dry forecast.

Sunday: heavy rain around Morzine and Les Gets and showers in the high Oberland, while the east and south stay dry.

Austria, Slovenia and Germany settled

Eastern Austria is dry both days. Gerlitzen, Ossiacher See and Schladming score 70 to 72. Leogang holds water more than most, but with no rain coming that does not matter this weekend. In the west, Sölden is best at 72.

Maribor Pohorje is dry at 75 with gusts near 30 km/h. In Germany, Geißkopf, Willingen and Winterberg stay in hero dirt with no rain.

Finale, La Palma and Whistler

Finale Ligure scores 82, well into dry, with gusts around 48 km/h both days. Expect loose, firm trails.

On La Palma, La Palma South is dry at 75 but gusty, up to 54 km/h today. El Paso and La Palma East are wet now, East taking around 3 mm today, but these trails drain about as fast as any we track and Sunday is dry. Whistler is variable at 53, with dry, warm days to help.

Our call

For Sunday, head east or south: Ticino, Val di Sole, Kronplatz or Carinthia give you dry hero dirt with no rain forecast. Leave Morzine, Les Gets and Champéry for another weekend.
