For Sunday 4 and Monday 5 October
Showers in the west on Sunday, eastern Austria turns wet on Monday
Most of the Alps ride well through Sunday and Monday, with hero dirt across central Switzerland, Graubünden and Ticino. Sunday brings rain to the Chablais and around Les Gets. On Monday the wet weather moves to eastern Austria, where Schladming, Leogang and Saalbach all pick up a few millimetres.
Central Switzerland, Graubünden and Ticino stay dry
This is the safe bet for both days. Rain chances run high in places on Sunday, but almost nothing is forecast to fall. Engelberg-Titlis, Pilatus and Stans all sit at 71, right at the top of hero dirt, with Zug and Höhoren Wildspitz close behind. Zug and Stans drain faster than most of our parks, so any stray shower will not linger.
Mürren-Schilthorn shows a 78% rain chance on Sunday but no measurable rain, and a cool top of around 13°C. In Graubünden, Lenzerheide and Poschiavo are in hero dirt, while Flims LAAX is on the dry side at 79. St Moritz is still only variable at 51, and cool.
In Ticino, Monte Bar is dry at 79 and sheds water quickly. Airolo and Monte Tamaro offer hero dirt with no rain forecast.
Wet Sunday in the Chablais, dry Monday
The northern French Alps and the Swiss Chablais take Sunday's rain. Les Gets is forecast around 30 mm, by far the heaviest anywhere; it dries fairly fast, but expect soft trails into Monday. Morzine gets around 7 mm and holds water more than most, though it also recovers well.
Across the border, Champéry and Morgins each see around 5 to 7 mm with a 93% chance. Zermatt gets around 3 mm, but it drains quickly and has very sunny slopes. Monday is dry across the area.
Further south, Serre Chevalier stays dry at 77 and Les 2 Alpes sees only about 1 mm, so both look good on Monday.
Western Austria mostly fine
Ischgl - Samnaun picks up around 6 mm on Sunday, the one wet spot here. Sölden is dry at 78, and Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis and Brandnertal are in hero dirt. Brandnertal holds water, so it will stay soft longer if a shower does hit. Monday is dry.
Eastern Austria turns wet on Monday
Sunday is dry and mild here, so ride it then. On Monday Schladming gets around 7 mm with gusts near 38 km/h, while Leogang and Saalbach Hinterglemm each see around 4 mm. Leogang and Schladming both hold water more than most of our parks, so expect them to stay soft after the rain.
Nearby, Maribor Pohorje in Slovenia stays dry at 80 and drains very fast. In Germany, Winterberg and Willingen sit in hero dirt and Geißkopf is dry, with no real rain on either day.
Italy: dust in Finale, hero dirt in Livigno
Finale Ligure has gone dusty at 90, with Sunday gusts near 48 km/h. Loose and past its best. Livigno and Mottolino sit in hero dirt with no rain forecast. Breuil-Cervinia catches about 2 mm on Sunday, and La Thuile stays in hero dirt.
Further afield: La Palma and Whistler
La Palma stays dry and warm. La Palma West and El Paso are in hero dirt, La Palma South is dry at 85 and windy, and La Palma East is variable at 41. Whistler Mountain is dry for both days but still variable at 53.
Our call
Head for central Switzerland, Graubünden or Ticino for the surest dry riding on both days. Save eastern Austria for Sunday and the Chablais for Monday, and skip Les Gets for now.
